Murad manufactures a number of skin care products. The most effective anti acne product is Murad's Exfoliating Acne Treatment Gel. This gel is extremely thick, designed to be applied after cleansing. Murad Acne Exfoliating Gel is not a mask, but works as a toner and cleanser.

Murad: effective ingredients

There are a number of effective ingredients in Murad Acne Exfoliating Gel. Triclosan, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, retinol and botanicals are all included in the Murad formula.

Triclosan is a topical antibiotic that disinfects the surface of the face. Because of the questions regarding its potential toxicity, we frown on the use of this ingredient in the Murad formula. Nonetheless, it is an effective antibiotic.

Retinol and glycolic acid help to exfoliate the top, dead layers of the skin. This aids in keeping the pores clear and thus reduces acne breakouts.

The botanicals included in the Murad formula, licorice, chamomile and aloe vera, help to reduce redness, irritation and inflammation associated with acne.

How to use Murad

Murad Acne Exfoliating Gel is to be used daily. After cleansing the skin, massage a small amount of the gel over the face and neck. That's all that is required. Ease of use is a strong point of the Murad product.

Murad gel: our evaluation

The Murad formula has a variety of interesting ingredients. The combination of exfoliants with salicylic acid is effective at removing the top layers of the skin, providing both cleaner and clearer skin. The inclusion of anti inflammatory botanical ingredients, to soothe both the swelling and redness of acne and to soothe the skin after exfoliation, is another strong point of the Murad formula.

Unfortunately, the presence of triclosan in the formula renders the entire product potentially toxic. Not only does the toxicity of triclosan concern us, but scientists are increasingly alarmed at the presence of antibiotics in the water supply and the environment. Using topical antibiotics, as the Murad formula does, only contributes to this serious environmental issue.
